Getting Started
Anyone can use Passenger.ie to book train tickets in Ireland. It is designed especially with Free Travel Pass holders in mind, but a Free Travel Pass is only needed to book free-travel tickets.
The Free Travel Pass is issued by the Department of Social Protection in Ireland. It allows seniors (66+) and certain other eligible groups to travel free on trains and other public transport services.
Each booking is for one person (or a pass holder plus companion, where the pass permits). Free-travel tickets require each passenger to hold their own valid Free Travel Pass.
Payments
Free Travel Pass holders travel free on train services; other passengers pay the train operator's standard fare. Using Passenger.ie, your first booking is free — after that, a once-off €9.99 in-app purchase unlocks unlimited bookings. No subscription.
Refunds
Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, depending on where you bought the app unlock:
- Apple App Store: Request refunds through Apple's "Report a Problem" page
- Google Play: Request refunds through your Google Play order history

Data & Privacy
We collect only the information necessary to book your train tickets:
- Your name (as it appears on your Free Travel Pass, if you are travelling with one)
- Email address (for ticket delivery)
- Phone number
- Journey details (origin, destination, dates)
We do NOT store payment card information or your train booking credentials.
We delete your booking information 90 days after your travel date. You can request immediate deletion by emailing privacy@passenger.ie.
